slick gestures are not admired, they are often viewed simply as fear, and are used to incite the population even more. Of course, such gestures would make one feel much better while defending Israel's position around a coffee table, but alas, Hamas doesn't want to chit-chat around coffee. Perhaps, such a gesture would have been appreciated before Shalit was abducted. Now its too late. And besides, such a gesture should have been applied only to small offences. Some guys, like the one we released on Tannenbaum, and who orchestrated another killing of 14 people, it would be foolish to release the second time. There is a difference between being generous, and making a joke of ourselves.
