There are valid medical reasons for forbidding marriage to girls under the age of 18. Teenage girls have a disproportionate number of premature births and other complications of pregnancy and childbirth, to say nothing of lacking the emotional maturity to deal with a demanding infant as well as a demanding husband. Premature children in turn have various medical problems, for instance, retinal problems that are extremely difficult to treat and affect the child throughout its life. These cults all seem to have the same trait of trapping girls in wedlock long before they are ready, and reducing women to the status of baby machines who are otherwise condemned to be as invisible as possible. What is the difference between this cult and the Taliban? The similarities are horribly obvious. In my opinion, the men who force girls into early marriage are child abusers who should be dealt with accordingly. What is the point of doing such a thing as marrying off a girl at the age of 15? Suddenly a young teenager is forced into sexual relations with a man, with a resulting pregnancy that may damage her health, and/or her child's health, permanently. What is the religious justification for such a practice? Why does any man think it is perfectly acceptable to remove a girl from school at age 14 or 15 and force her into sex and nonstop child production when she should be given several more years to develop her mind and finding her place in the world? Unfortunately, all cults are more alike than different and this odious cult is no different than any of the others we have learned of in recent years. This so-called "rabbi" should be in prison. As for sending girls to Missouri to be married at 15, there are US laws prohibiting such a travesty. Those who are engaged in this kind of human trafficking should be prosecuted aggressively.
