One of Allen's jokes I quote is when he has been executed after God said he would be OK: "It's not that God is bad, it's just that he is such an underachiever." After the brilliance of his early screwball comedies and the mature humour of "Annie Hall" and "Hannah and her Sisters", it's been a long, long downward slide. And there's no avoiding the fact that his behaviour to Mia Farrow was outrageous - pure and simple. It seemed strange at the time that his most heartfelt love affair on film was with a teenager, Mariel Hemingway, but after Soon Yi, it made a grim sense. I wish he'd proved a more successful artist and human being.
