The UN has the job of stopping Hezbollah from getting weapons. They failed, just like they always fail in any situation where the United Nations is expected to enforce its own principles. Hell, rockets were fired from the front yards of UN buildings in Gaza during Cast Lead. So you know what, this whole plan sounds great on paper. Gazans get to prosper, Hamas doesn't get weapons. Unfortunately for the deluded liberals in Europe, the world doesn't work that way. Hamas can already smuggle some weapons in under the heavy siege; an easing of the siege will only further enable them. And moreover, with the siege done Hamas will be able to effectively govern. That is a terrible situation, with the only result being the strengthening of the Hamas government and pushing peace further out of reach.
