I am an American Jew and a HUGE supporter of Israel even though I am left of center. I stand alone often in my views and written opinions. My most important view is church/state separation and the issue I care most about is religous extremism world wide. I can tell you this my support IF the ultra orthodox extremists go the way of Arab fundamentalists then Israel loses me and MANY MANY Jews and others in the US. Israel for some is on shaky ground anyway regarding what people here see about the Palestinian situation. So far my main love for Israel is the fact (a) it's a Jewish state for ALL Jews and (b) it is generally secular in the mainstream religious and political practice with a small minority of insane religious fanatics. If these disgusting religious fundamentalists go the way of Islamic fundamentalism and even Christian fundamentalism YOU WILL LOSE ME. I AM GONE from your support IF I see these jerks gain power. I am a SECULAR Jew with little religious belief BUT I am a supporter of Israel STRONGLY and lend my help when I can. BUT you can be SURE that American Jews will abandon Israel like a sinking ship IF and only IF the religious ultra orthodox extremists gain a foothold of great power. KNOW this: I am GONE from supporting Israel if my main argument for it is that it is secular and I as a Jew am so proud of what Israel has accomplished in the face of annihilation from its enemies all around. Think twice, my Israeli brethren of letting STUPID rule. Be smart and reject ultra orthodox religious adherents and reject them that en masse.

'It’s not only the two of us lying here': What the banned Israeli novel is really about

‘Borderlife,’ the book at the center of a controversy involving the Education Ministry, depicts a desperate attempt by the protagonists, a Jewish woman and an Arab man, to make love, not war. The issue of assimilation that it raises cannot be dismissed lightly.
