As I recall from stories my father told me, Jew-killing was a traditional sport in the Ukraine, especially after Easter services. My grandfather died in a pogrom, which wiped out many of the Jewish men in the town where he had lived. My grandmother, left with six children, came to the US, not knowing a word of english. She survived, all the children finished university in the US and went on to live better lives, dieing at a much older age than their father did.
