I think that the flight of the refugees in 1948 was due to a combination of factors: some were driven out, others fled, encouraged by Arab governments to leave and promised that they could return in a few days after the war was over and the Jews were gone. We will never know exactly what happened in every village and in every case, and there will never be an exact set of "facts" regarding everyone. I do believe that Israel must assume some responsibility, but as I wrote - not all. LIving in an area of Israel populated by many Arabs, I have personally met people who have told me that their ancestors were evicted, and others who said they fled. Unless you think we bear all responsibility by winning the war, you cannot blame it all on Israel.
