On 8 August 1945 the human race passed the point of no return in this argument. Total war is the inevitable outcome of policies of deterrance based on holding civilian populations hostage. The neo-nazi Syrian Baathist regime is simply the stalking horse and test bed for the Iranians whose overarching goal is the world domination by dint of their peculiar, mutant brand of Islam. We are beyond reason, beyond negotiation and far behind the curve of any kind of game theory solution to this. To the Iranians any level of retaliation will be acceptable, because the dictum of the next total war being won by who is left not by who is right is the mainstay of their thinking about this. America, China and Russia will be dragged into this and will then procede to divy up a glass-clad M.E. sans Iran, sans Syria and unfortunately sans Israel. There is no longer any question that we are in the throes of the ramp up for WW3 or WW4 depending on your calculus. Giora Ram is dreaming about the past.

A milestone birthday is as good an opportunity as any for a midlife crisis about the Middle East crises.
