A strong show of solidarity with Europeans regarding Israel is bound to earn Turkey major points toward EU membership. Turkey was always a fairweather associate (not friend). Still it is better to have an accurate account of our associates, rather than live in a fantasy. Alliances do have value, especially when it comes to common defence. But, if an alliance is not going to be somewhat reliable, then I'd rather walk. International politics have practicality at the core. An unreliable relationship would probably be considered impractical. For Turkey to "leave Israel hangin'" over the Gaza Op says a lot. Ultimately, Europe and Turkey deserve each other. They definitely have one thing in common.
