I think some people believe that turkey should stay out of EU not because it can not meets the requirements but the population is moslem. I have been living in the Uk for the last 8 years.I know the procedures, economy, people in turkey and in the Uk. I am confident that turkey is far more capable of entering the EU than poland, Romania, bulgaria etc. turkey is also more secular than Israel. Moreover, Erdogan's government is more secular than Israeli government as well. If the government implements some new islamic laws I bet 3/4 of his people will leave him immediately. I do not think he has got this sort of idea. but if you want to believe what you want to believe time will tell us the truth. Of course the east turkey is poor but bear in mind the east is less inhabited than the west same as the UK. nobody wants to live in the north and the north is poor compare to the rest of the country. Turkish culture is not miles away from the italian and spanish culture. They arenot stupied
