What this young woman is tormented about is a comfortable familiar embracing life and community versus random choices with no particular compass to guide her decisions. What she is not addressing is Truth. The community may be a convenient source of comfort and safety but if it also is a source of hurt and pain for many then one needs to ask whether Truth matters. Orthodoxy condemns women to second class status in marriage and divorce, makes hundreds Agunot and ostracized at the risk of bringing mutant babies (Mamzerim) to the world. It ostracizes Gays. It belittles goyim. It demeans opposing Jewish voices. There are many beautiful benefits to being part of an Orthodox community, but one of them is not Truth or Values (certainly not universal values of equality, individual dignity etc.).
