Assad could certainly do more to promote peace even if Netanyahu is determined to start a war. Israel will not invade Syria. That would leave Hisbollah on Israel's left flank, Hamas on it's rear and besides, Syria, weak as it is, might not be a total push over like Hisbollah was in the Second Lebanon War. Israel is smart enough to not take on anything but 98 lb weaklings.
