Post-Zionists argue in favor of convertinf existing nations into multicultural ones, and yet, he denies the existence of the Jewish people based on the fact that they don't share a common ''secular culture''! Sand should know that unless you subscribe to Stalin's foolish doctrine of ''objective criterias'' a population is required to meet in order to form a nation, nothing prevents the Jews from declaring themselves a nation if they want to. In fact, a nationality is merely the desire of sharing a common sovereignty. As for the fact that the Jewish identity evolved from a religious identity into a national one, there is nothing unique in this. Ernest Gellner (Shlomo Sand's heroe), declared himself that a Bosnian is a Serbo-Croatian Muslim who lost faith. Thus, the Bosnians recycled their religious identity and turned it into a national one, because they just don't share the Serbian or the Croatian national narratives. Why turning a religious identity into a national one? Because religions cannot be defined only through their spiritual content. Religious communities are historical communities and there is no reason for them do vanish once their mebers stop believing in God.
