"Abbas accused Hamas of trying to set up its own state in Gaza alone,..." Hamas already has done that. There is no "trying" about it. It's a fait accompli. The Gaza Strip has successfully seceded from the PA. '"The aim of today's meeting is to topple the coup plotters in Gaza," council member Ahmed Abdel Rahman of Fatah told reporters before the Wednesday session began, referring to Hamas.' Now how is the PLO going to do that when Fatah is in the West Bank and Hamas is in the Gaza Strip and there is at least 40 Km. of Israeli sovereign territory in between? By reissuing passports from Ramallah? The PA's security forces in the Gaza Strip just got their butts wiped and are now completely disarmed. Give it up, Abbas. The Palestinian Territories has irreparably and permanently fallen apart into two separate and independent pieces. In fact, the Gaza Strip is in a better position to gain independence and statehood before the West Bank is because its boundaries are not contested.
