    apart from the hotel prices what deters tourist is the treatment at the hands of israeli official when entering and leaving the country - several of my friends called them "arrogant" . i have been to israel twice in the last 3 years and have never felt so humiliated anywhere, although my passport is full from visas from all over the world. i am a retired german teacher and should certainly not qualify as a terrorist suspect. on the way out i had to open my case because "i had books in it". The last time i came in touch with this kind of censorship was at the east german communist border before 1990. i would like to know more of the country (i even have some jewish relatives in the us), but think twice if i am treated like that in the "only democracy in the middle east"
