The US no longer has authority over Iraqi airspace. George Bush handed authority back to Iraq right before he left office. Now even the US Airforce flies over Iraq only on the invitation of Iraq. And one of the conditions of that invitation is that the US protects Iraqi airspace from foreign warplanes. The instant Israel flew over Iraq, the US would be forced into a position of deciding to honor the Status of Forces Agreement with Iraq and use our planes to defend Iraqi airspace, or violate that agreement and put every single US soldier in grave danger. Why would Israel put the United States, and US soldiers in this position? The US would have no choice but to force the IAF warplanes to retreat, or be shot down. If Israel wants to choose that battle, don't come crying about IAF airmen lost and/or captured and held by the Iraqi's when they are shot down over Iraq.
