Regardless of his initial declared goals, wether Olmert's war was a success or not won't be known before a few months. If Hezbollah disarms (unlikely), Israel would be able to claim an important achievement. If, on the other hand, Hezbollah does not disarm, and only gets empowered by the war, as some have predicted, then certainly Olmert's incursion into Lebanon would have only worsened a situation that was not so bright to start with. Ironically, this would apply to both Israel and Lebanon.
