Though Abram was originally from Ur of the Chaldees in Mesopotamia he was called upon by the Most High G-d to be separate (eevri, to traverse or pass over), to be apart from the idol worshipers of his day and these people became known as Hebrews, later Israelites, and later on in Judah as Jews. That's what the "Jewish Bible" you refer to says and it goes further to say that they came out of Egypt in the Exodus as a mixed multitude. What that means is that some G-d of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob fearing Egyptians were astonished by the power of Moses the Hebrew prophet who was able to mock the Egyptian high court and its high priests with the unleashing of the ten deadly plagues, and these believers of their own volition went into Hebrew households that fateful Passover to be under the Blood of the Lamb spread on the doorposts and lintels of those homes in faithful subjection to the directions of this Most High G-d and the lives of their first born were spared. Care to tell me that the modern day militant Palestinians and their supporters are going to do something humble like this anytime soon? No, they'd rather challenge the Most High and His unfolding of His-Story in the middle east thinking they're doing His will but in actuality they're doing the will of the evil one.
