Let the Israelis begin, by admitting how foolish it was, soon after their June 1967 victory, to look upon the newly conquered territories as their genuine possession, and to launch a settlement enterprise amidst the foreign stateless population they had found there, as if these would forever consent to be their silent and obedient subjects. With a difference: In 1967 the Israelis were led by democraticly elected leaders. In 1948, the Palestinians were ruled by a terrorist named Amin al-Husayni, who had imposed his authority on his people only through violence and murders.
