Israel cannot prevent you from dealing with the new Palestinian government even though it has not fulfilled any of the conditions of the Quartet. The Quartet, which basically represents the world, had set certain reasonable conditions for the Palestinians. Now, some of you seem to say, forget it. You must keep in mind, though, that no one can impose a settlement on Israel. The Mecca agreement has prevented a civil war in the territories, but it has not advanced the peace process one bit. This conflict can only be solved if the Palestinians decide they prefer a state to eternal struggle. Such a state can only result from compromise and through negotiations between the two parties. Putting undue pressure on Israel will only lead to resentment of the people of Israel. Undue pressure on Israel from the outside can only lead to further conflict.
