S, you're being quite optimistic - you are essentially saying that the mullahs are rational enough to avoid war, based on a threat of reprisal. I do not believe we should leave such matters to optimism or mere chance. If Baldwin or Chamberlain had recognised the pre-eminent threat of their own time and had the courage to counter it, history might have had a much happier turn.
