"The Druze are unquestionably loyal to Israel and serve in combat units voluntarily." Wrong, the Druze are compulsorily drafted into the army as a result of an old "agreement" signed between the government and traditional Druze leaders who were illiterate and could not understand the consequences of their actions. Opposition to the draft is increasing among young Druze, and some are sitting in jail for refusing to serve. Druze MK Said Naffaa replaced MK Azmi Bishara, and he's as patriotic as Bishara when it comes to nationalistic issues. Druze poet Sameeh El-Qassem is one of the most famous Palestinians - inside and outside the homeland. The Druze are begining to realize that when it comes to civil & property rights they are being treated by the government the same way the government treats their Muslim & Christian Arab brothers. The Druze of the Golan Heights, after 40 years of occupation, still consider themselves Syrians and refuse to accept the Israeli ID cards.
