    In 1917, and according to http://www.marxist.com/MiddleEast/Israel_Palestine_historical.html "the population of Palestine was about 700,000 of which 575,000 were Muslims, 75,000 were Christian, and only 55,000 were Jews." You do the math, the Jewish population was less than 8%, made-up of immigrants who came to Palestine as part of a well organized and well financed effort. They were not indiginous to the land and they did not speak its language. The increase in Jewish population was not due to natural growth but as a result of importing people from Europe.
