I think you should have been told Neil, a great deal of the houses and land on which Jewish "settlements" were built was land purchased for a very juicy price from local Arab landowners. Some went to live in luxury on the proceeds in USA etc. and I know of at least one case where the vendor was murdered for selling land to Jews. These are facts and can be checked. As for what is known officially as Government Lands, much of the territory of Judea and Samaria was not the private property of any landowner, but settled by waves of Arab/former Beduin groups who moved in and out times of famine or warfare over the years. On the other hand, Kfar Darom, for example, which was totally evacuated and demolished when Israel Gov cleared the Jewish settlers out of the Gaza Strip, was purchased with good money before the State of Israel was founded. This fact can also be easily verified.
