I agree with You about strings attached, and that Israel can`t possibly forgo the U.S.$3bn aid per year, especially right now with Hezbollah, Syria & Iran threatening her with annihilation... I think that Israel puts in about 25-30% of her BNP per year for the defense budget and more than 15% per year in debt repayment. That would leave about 50-60% of her BNP for education, health care, culture and other necessary purposes in running the jewish state. -OF COURSE, Israel needs financial assistence from us jews in the diaspora, but it`s a serious sin in the face of G-d, to give in order to enhance one`s own weak ego -and not of one`s heart ! Neither do I think that corruption in Israel is as bad as the media makes it out to be, but it`s bad enough and we jews need to work on that... especially with regards to the haredi community... Ehud Barak during his 1999 campaign had some plans for addressing that issue, but as most of the time PAL-arab terror-violence stole the whole everything.
