Answer to Levy #1: it is true that most university profs do OK financially, as you wrote, but this is not due to their salary, which is a fraction of what it would be in Western Europe or the USA. It is simply because they are intelligent enough to find additional sources of income, mostly additional jobs (consulting, start-up companies, teaching outside the uni, private lessons, occasional months spent at universities abroad). Of course, all these "halturot" mean that they can devote less time and attention to their students and university business. And why do you write that they take a ride on the coattail of teachers? What basis does that statement have?
