Why invest so much energy and prestige in a region that will not bring any benefits afar from hate and concern? World politics today is different from the 60s or 70s. There are new actors, new scenarios. The influences you mentioned, Leo, have not been enough to impose a lifestyle or a Western-shaped-democracy. The US, powerful as it maybe, is finding more and more difficulties to gain support in the Security Council and... take a look at Iran and Venezuela... who would say that powerful US has to coexist with such rough States and stay quiet?
