Haaretz, my posting titled "To 3rd rate British Academic #18" has been incorrectly filed. My message was as follows: Accusing IDF of arrogance and stupidity is rather a case of the kettle calling the pot black. During the Falklands war, HMS Sheffield (a Type-42 destroyer), was struck by a pair of AM 39 Exocet missiles in very similar circumstances to the Saar 5 "Spear" incident. Both the Sheffield and Saar 5 had turned off their automatic mode of their Close-in and stand-off weapon systems owing to the fear of misclassifying and inadvertently firing upon friendly aircraft in the theatre of operations. Crews of both vessels paid a heavy price - not because of stupidity, but concern for their airborne colleagues.
