You are almost there with your analysis. Except that things are never black and white. It's a matter of perception and judgment. The talkbacks have their value, when people read the opinions of their oponents and try to learn from them rather than rebut them by simple: they lie; they are anti-semitic; they are idiots;. . This ends the dialogue. The issues presented for talk backs are very serious, of life and death. Except for the fundamentalists, who base their "truth" on what they believe is the word of God, people are struggling with the complexity of the issues. Syria is presentlly an enemy and so is Hamas, but that does not mean that all they say are lies. Their narrative is painful, no matter who caused it. This is unimportant anymore. What is important is how to get out from the morass with some dignity, by saving face. Unless the antagonists learn to respect the views of others, they will both sink deeper in the bog. The same goes for the loggers.
