David, I totally agree with your comments about the failings of Arafat and the Arab states. But Arafat's failings do not permit Israel to perform carte blanche in Gaza or the West Bank. Let's talk international law: under the Fourth Geneva Convention, Israel, as the recognised occupying power in the Palestinian territories, has obligations not to move its population onto the land, not to build permanent structures, and to ensure the basic humanitarian needs of the people are met. And even if the law didn't say that, we have a moral obligation not to treat all Palestinians as criminals. I believe in Israel, and I believe we have the capacity to do the right thing. Happy to discuss Chechnya, Darfur etc. another time. But labelling me anti-Semitic because I don't believe all Palestinians are trying to kill me is a little sad.
