    it's curious to realize that politicians like rabin who like you pointed out so eloquently are devoid of human feelings, and incapableof empathy for other people's suffering and compassion, are almost universally competent tacticians who lack any long term, big picture type of strategic vision. rabin, with his brutal treatment of the first intifada created cadres of would be suicide bombers and by not daring to confront the radical settlers after the goldstein massacre has encouraged them to ocntinue their barbaric behavior and bold disregard of israel's democracy, such as it is. in a way, his tolerance of the messianic, deeply undemocratic and violent elements in the jewish population had brought about his own death. it's very important for the israeli mainstream to remember rabin's shortcomings, despite his tragic death, in order not to repeat his very profound errors in the future.
