Orthodoxy is based on the "shulcan aruch" a 16th century guide to what Halacha should be plus occasional rabbinical edicts to try and cope with the modern world. This document is both a blessing & a curse. On one hand it gives Halacha rules to follow but, on the other hand it lets us be lazy in the need to constantly update these rules to accommodate modern times. The sad thing is that many orthodox do not realize that the "Shucan Aruch" is a man made document and may not be in all cases a true interpretation go the Torah. many orthodox rabbis making comments based on their understanding of religion have made orthodox Judaism a thing of ridicule due to their ignorance of the real world. The time has come to update Judaism to the 21 century reality.
