It's true that there are several historical claims to Palestine/Israel that date back centuries...Also, it cannot be denied that Israel gained and occupied land through war with neighnoring Arab states. However, it would be simplistic to suggest that the land has been occupied as a result of attack...It would negate a reality that Israel never was content with the land that was partitioned for them with the Balfour Declaration and never made any secret that they saw entitlement to greater Palestine. The war was a war before a shell was loaded, it began with the Balfour declaration...A partition plan that was not negotiated with the predominant inhabitants of the region (Palestinians) but in spite of their presence. In many ways, the arguments made about occupation sound more and more like the 'Chicken & Egg' argument about which came first...Yet, occupation exists, people are displaced, refugees rampant and missiles & tanks are used in 'defense' against rock throwers.
