It is obvious that the Israelis have underestimated Hezbollah and its resilience. I think Ehud Olmert wishes he'd never gone into this unnecessary war to prove to an increasingly macho Israeli society that he is just as tough as his predecessor. There is no military solution to the Israeli problem. For the first time over 2 million Israelis have been forced into shelters and whole towns have been evacuated. It looks like the Israeli tactic of bulleying and intimidating the neighbours have failed. The only way out for Israel is to go back to the UN and allow for the establishment of a Palestinian state according to the UN partition plan. Israel can't sustain its current policy of aggression and existing above the law. Let's hope that Israelis will learn the necessary lesson from their latest disasterous adventure.
