Travel industry sources say few Israelis have canceled but few are making new reservations. If they’re flying to Europe, it’s to the east.09:38 28.11.15 | 0 comments
Once again, it is vital for Israel to remind the world, and especially the EU, of certain basic facts: 1) The 1947 UN resolution dividing Palestine into two states stated that all of Jerusalem was supposed to become an international city. In the subsequent war, Israel seized the western half and Jordan the eastern. Since the nations of the world have always refused to recognize even West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, it is obscene for the EU to contemplate recognizing East Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital. And the so-called "1967 border" is an armistice line and was never recognized as an internationally recognized border, so there is no intrinsic reason for it to be the absolute basis for border negotiations. Over the years, our governments have permitted fictions regarding sovereignty over East Jerusalem and agreed borders to become de facto realities. As usual, our government's public relations leave a lot to be desired.
