They actually said things about wishing they could kill gays, and whooping it up over the kill-em-all-and-let-God-sort-'em-out statements he made about the American Imperialism - er, "Liberation," - of Iraq. His genius, especially as Borat, is that he was able to capture what some people REALLY think and act in America. People aren't stereotyped when they put their behavior on display for all to see. The people in his film projected their own image to the camera, he didn't make one up for them.
