To call the UN decision to unilaterally grant Palestinian statehood and observer status is a mistake. It is a mistake on many levels. There is no Palestinian unity to create this state. It is obvious that the PA was trying to look for leverage to isolate Israel at the Hague (I personally do not believe this attempt at isolation will come to fruition ultimately). In addition - borders for such a state (which will obviously not be the same lines as 1949) must be agreed to in order to create a Palestinian state. I do not see this move as helping create such a state or even as ultimately isolating Israel. It is simply a bad move that does nothing to further peace and tranquility in the conflict. As an aside - I find it incredible that the Turkish and other governments are focusing on Israel/Arab concerns so much Egyptian democracy is truly in danger and when forty thousand people have been murdered by the Assad regime over the past year and a half. This focus on Israel is an intellectual fraud.
