I am not using the occupation as an excuse for the chaos--lots of Palestinian actions are damaging Palestinian interests. But lets not pretend that the Palestinians were handed Gaza--no strings attached. The withdrawal was a bit of shell game to distract the world from watching the wall go up, and the settlers had maxed out the usage of the water table. Now the Gazans are left with the land, but closed borders with no/limited access to food/medical supplies, and virutally no control over the financial situation. Ultimately, Israel still has more of influence here than the PA There is no shortage of opportunities to criticize the actions of the Palestinian leadership and militants--but that doesn't make Israel innocent. The Israeli leadership and military has embraced its role of aggressor a little too comfortably. At least have the decency to call it what it is!
