US strategic interests really begs the question - how and where? Israel is a small blob on the edge of the Arabian desert. It doesn't watch over the Red Sea and Suez, US ally Egypt does that. It doesn't defend the Gulf or the oil, Saudi does that. It doesn't control the eastern Med, NATO and the US fleet does that. It doesn't help in Iraq, Afpak, didn't help in Bosnia, Darfur, in fact can't really help anywhere, it's offended too many nations, esp. Muslim and democratic ones. It doesn't really offer bases the US needs, it's got them all over Saudi, Iraq etc. After Iraq, the less said about its intelligence stories the better. It is not a strategic asset in the UN, rather a liability. It is not a member of the IMF, EU or anything. Fact is Abe, Israel is as much strategic use to the USA as a chocolate teapot. Quit trying to fool the public, ADL and AIPAC are about using Jewish money and votes to try to subvert US foreign policy, that's the only 'strategic interest' at work here.
