The politicians were stupidly trying to micromanage the war and ignoring the officers who were on the ground in Lebanon and instead of giving them what they were asking for the politicians were saying what we are going to give you something else because we think different tactics should be used. Then there was over a decade of military budget cuts and one of the cutbacks the IDF had made was calling up reserves for regular training so some people had not been called up in years they forgot the skills they had learned then they get called up for real combat and they are just in not able to fight up to maximum effectiveness. They were buying their own body armour or doing without because the IDF hadn't bought enough to save money, the Trophy system to protect tanks from anti tank missisles like Hezbollah had it existed in 2006 but the IDF didn't buy it to save money and the IDF is again talking about no longer installing this on tanks to save money. The region is more unstable than it has been in decades so now is not the time to be cutting the military budget so heavily. We don't know what the threats will be over the next 4 years but we do know its serious now and we should not be cutting it to such a huge extent unless we want the next war to be a repeat of Lebanon.
