This is all about Iran. The strategic priority in general is to prevent Iranian hegemony and in particular to sever the supply line between Iran and Hezbollah. Most of the AQ, Salafists and the like are foreigners who can be isolated and dealt with after the Alawite regime is finished. Before the Salafists arrived the Syrian rebels were not jihadist and the West missed its opportunity to assist. I hope it’s not too late. After the Alawites are gone the non-Salafists and Salafists will fight it out.
