As a man shuttling between Switzerland and Cologne, knowing Cologne for a long time, having friends there, I cannot sign the statements of Mr. Schuette. I cannot see an antisemitic notion in any case broadly founded in the population. But You have to know, that discussions about the city planning are very controversial in this city. Not only in the case of a jewish museum, but in every aspect. People are not very happy with the administration of the city in general, producing very high structural debts, because of chaotical decissions and organisational problems (yes, in germany, because of this and because of the more open-minded perople there, Cologne is sometimes called to be the most northern italian city). The debts of some german cities are much much higher than in Switzerland, so I can unerstand, that people there want to stop the enormous wasting of money. For example, Its also about the renovation of the opera which leads to costs of more than 250.000.000 Euro. The criticism against this project is much much stronger. And what I get from Mr Schuette was, that he is also very interested in keeping his good paid job. He is not very interested in finding other solutions than building a new 60.000.000 Euro museum...there are so many museum where the findings can be shown, but he wants to build a new expansive museum at exactly the specified loation. So it is very easy to defame a whole city and its people as antisemitic because of the staements of one person who is following mostly its own interests and tries to defame people who have not the same opinion like he has. This is no good style, I think. Greetz from Winterthur, Switzerland
