The irony is that the fanatics are so obsessed with occupying the land that they are prepared to destroy it in order to build another settlement, another road, put in place more infrastructure. I was recently in the southern part of the West Bank and the abiding impression is of concrete walls, barbed wire fences and tarmacked roads scarring what was once a beautiful barren landscape. To me it is a form of madness to make something ugly and then choose to live there but then I am not a zealot. To them, all that counts is having more Jews live over the green line. Destroying the landscape to achieve this is evidently a price worth paying.
