I agree that Judaism and atheism are mutually exclusive. But I do recognize that there are Jews that believe otherwise. I don't pretend to understand how realizing the stories of the bible have nothing to do with reality does not invalidate the whole text. But to each his own. As to why an Israeli atheist is willing to fight and die for Israel, the answer is simple. I was born and raised in this country. I am an Israeli and proud to be one. I am an atheist and proud to be one as well. Israeli life should allow the reflection of the disdain we have for religion. I should not be forced to marry outside the country, or any of the other ridiculous acts one must do to avoid the tyrranical Orthodox Jews. I am not (yet) asking for Israel to become a secular nation, but at least allow me to live my life as I please.
