    My understanding is that PA President Abbas stated that it was not up to him to designate Israel's status, and he actually said, call it " what you want " even " the Hebrew State ", etc. Since 1948, Israel's declaration of independence refers to modern Israel (approximately 7 times) as " the Jewish State " and furthermore, the initial documentation of the Balfour Declaration of 1917 refers to a Jewish State in the Holy Land. My understanding in this unique request by PM Netanyahu of PA President Abbas is in reference to the Jewish State of Israel means to limit the number of Palestinian refugees returning to Israel proper upon signing a peace agreement (within the 1967 border between the two states) in that Israel maintains its Jewish majority and distinctiveness with its statutory and religious holidays. For example, Scotland this coming autumn 2013 will vote on considering to separate from United Kingdom as an independent nation. If the Scottish people were able to maintain their Catholic origins, then perhaps it would have sustained its Catholic identity as well as national independence.
