In Normative Halachic observance aka what is usually called Orthodox by the standard media there are guidelines that split along Sephardic and Ashkenazi rulings. When the Messiah comes, of course, this split will be resolved. Until then, we will have to live with them. Other than Normative Halachic observance there are Haredim aka what some media experts call Ultra- . . . who are more stringent on some Halachic issues. There is nothing undemocratic about their right to be stricter anymore than Vegans spurn anything foods that contain animal by-products. That is their privelege, and, as we respect our Vegan friends, the drivel that Mr. Hasit tries to pass on to us as "his kind of Judaism" reveals a profound ignorance of our Sources. It is said that we defer to Hillel because in the current Reality, as we wait for the Messiah, his approach works better. After the Deliverance, when we have learned to control our "inclinations", we will take on the more ascetic approach of Shammai. Democracy? I have heard the the United States of America has the largest prison population per captia in the world--some democracy! Our obligation as Jews is to learn Torah and thereby enable ourselves to observe Halacha, normatively, or, if we chose, more strictly and respect each other's points of view, That is Democracy
