There is a genuine anxiety on the part of those Arab governments aligned with the US to see this meeting succeed. This is a strong counterpoint to the indifference of the Bush and Omert regimes which seem indifferent to it's success. Settlers are bragging they will establish illegal outposts. The Olmert government ignores them. Saudi is almost pleading with Israel to stop the outposts. The "moderate" arabs are very concerned that Hamas will prevail and the possibility of a secular moderate Palestine will evaporate. They have much to lose if that happens. George and Ehud seem to think that Hamas has been defeated, and therefore Abbas can be destroyed. Typical of that two to not ponder who will fill the vacuum when Fatah collapses. We can never know for certain, but I suspect that had people dealt with Abbas after Arafat died, Hamas never would have won the election. If Israel does not deal honestly and openly with Abbas now, it is handing the keys of Palestine to Hamas.
