Yes the free market has its problems but once you get past the wishy washy theoretical idealism what is the alternative? Throughout history socialism has failed wherever its been tried. There have been lots of socialist models but all have failed, even the Kibutz which was socialism at its purest and the closest form that ever came close to working have now put socialist ideals behind them and are just another form of buiness. Where in the past all members were equal, ate together, children slept together, payment was more like pocket money today members get paid according to their skills ( not equally ). They can even buy their own home on the kibutz so if the kibutz model can't work where will socialism work? The state cannot afford to look after everybody and the idea of rich & poor is one that existed throughout human history. One caveman hunted lots of animals whilst another didn't catch anything and so he starved to death whilst the other was strong and healthy. Today we use money but same principle your never going to have equality no matter how hard you try. The free market is also the system that gives people most freedom. When we want government to look after us there must live by very strict rules and democracy & socialist planning don't go hand in hand
