The settlers, a disparate group including secular and religious, nationalistic and those who would go back to Israel proper if compensated, fanatics and sane, are but a tool of Israel's policy makers, right and left, who have been all along against the creation of a thriving, viable and independent Palestinian state. The settlers have not failed. Thet did what many Israeli governments encouraged them to do and paid for it lavishly. From where I sit, the settlement blocks will not be evacuated. Remote outposts maybe but then they count for nothing anyway. Will more Israelis settle across the Green Line?. Probably not in significant numbers. The failure is that of the concept and its proponents.
