This is really no change in US policies. Were these demonstrations taking place in Cuba or in another country that has refused to bow to the will of the US, we might well send in the troops. For more decades than one can count the US has always backed right wing military dictatorships that have trampled on the rights of the people. At this point the Obama administration is in a quandary not wanting to show other right wing dictators that they might lose US support if their people rise up against them. Right now I believe that the desires of the people of Egypt are not as high on the agenda of the US government as is the desire to retain control.
